Course Description
This course explores early Japanese prose and poetry to detect native motifs that continue into modern literature. Dramatic scripts, I-Novels, surrealistic fiction, and contemporary authors including Yoshimoto Banana and Murakami Haruki will be read and written about in a student-created literary online diary. Taught in English.
Personal Narrative
This course provided students with a means of understanding daily life in ancient Japan by way of ancient stories, literature, authors, and movies based on those things. I was introduced to different Japanese stories and mythology which helped me to understand the cultural background of the country. It was a great experience to read pieces of literature written by authors of different eras.
