Personal Statement
Due to a conflict in schedules, I was unable to completely take this course, but due to my interest in the course I chose to audit it; this meant that I was attending it once a week rather than the scheduled two. While I was unable to attend half of the classes, I still remained engaged in the coursework on the days that I attended, learning proper intonation, low-high and high-low patterns in Japanese grammar, and similar speaking techniques to improve my own speaking ability. In addition to hatsuon, I learned proper ways to write papers depending on the target audience or situation, for instance plain form used in a final thesis paper, but 'desu. masu' form used in a script. These lessons proved useful to me when completing my final Capstone Thesis script, paper, and presentation.
